Portland Remodelers: Build Up or Out?
If the next house you purchase is going to be custom-made, think about how much house you need. Is it a requirement of your area to have a basement? Does your neighborhood have building restrictions? How many people will live in the house?
Most of the newer neighborhoods have preset conditions set in order for the houses to be built. They have to meet a certain square footage limit; most places only require you follow the least amount of square footage necessary. Some even have the plans already set out for you to choose from. This is not what you’re looking for if you want full control over how your house looks both inside and out.
When deciding on how you want to build your house, think about who will be living there at the time of construction or in the future. Two story houses
are the ever popular type. Some home owners believe the more stories they have, the more impressive their house looks. If you have, or ever will have,
an elderly person living with you it may not be the best thing to have a house with more than one floor. Stairs can be just as dangerous for small
children, though that is something that can be fixed with safety gates. Basements are always something to consider especially if you live in the
Midwest. In parts of the US, it is required by law to have a basement.
Ranch style houses, along with other one story houses, are ideal for those who have injuries that restrict one from doing certain activities, such as
climbing stairs. It is also more ideal for someone living alone who just doesn’t need that much room. Building a one story house can help when it
comes to finances, too. No matter you choice, build it around your needs.
